The Zoological Curator leads the animal team

We are looking for a Zoological Curator at the Living Rainforest Centre in Berkshire.

The centre gives over 96,000 visitors a year a unique and immersive experience. Our talented, knowledgeable and enthusiastic animal team play a vital role in our success. The team maintain the animal collection, as well as reviewing the collections management, standards and practices. As importantly, they develop our collection to offer an interesting variety of species and a genuine rainforest feel. This helps to ensure our visitors have an inspiring experience.

This role is a great opportunity to work with a wide variety of species, and would be a perfect first step for a senior keeper to gain curator experience.

About the role

As Zoological Curator you will lead a dedicated and enthusiastic team to ensure the highest standards of animal husbandry, welfare and exhibit. You will oversee staff and volunteer development and training, as well as overseeing budgets. The role also includes developing conservation projects which are in keeping with our ethos.

You will also set and implement protocols to allow the safe and legal functioning of the department and to maintain high animal welfare standards.

The team is small so this is a hands-on role which is both fulfilling and challenging

About you

The successful candidate will have

• A relevant degree and preferably a higher degree
• Five years experience within a zoo
• Senior keeper status with experience of managing staff
• Experience of a diversity of taxa, husbandry and management of animal exhibits and facilities within a themed environment
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to build strong working relationships across teams
