Giant Birthwort

Aristolochia gigantea, commonly known as the giant birthwort, is a spectacular flowering vine native to Brazil. It produces enormous, trumpet-shaped flowers with striking patterns that can reach up to 30 centimetres across. These unusual flowers attract pollinators like flies by releasing a sweet, fruity scent, which temporarily traps them to ensure pollination before letting them go. The vine grows quickly and can cover trees or trellises, providing extra shelter for insects and small animals in the rainforest. Its dramatic flowers and unique pollination strategy make it one of the most fascinating plants in tropical forests.
