Giant fern
Angiopteris evecta | Marattiaceae

This is the largest known fern species in the world. It grows in tropical rainforests and reproduces vegetatively—by sections of the plant becoming separate from the original—and by spores.
The starchy rhizome and curled ends of this plant are used as a food source; the stem and rhizome are also used in traditional medicine to treat swellings, bleeding, and coughs.
Giant Ferns are an ancient plant genus that dates back to the Carboniferous era (290-350 million years ago). They were present on Earth more than 100 million years before the dinosaurs.
