Weekend Shop and Café Assistant

The Living Rainforest is an educational visitor centre where visitors can experience the sights, sounds and smells of a lush tropical rainforest environment.

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic and customer focused team member to work on Saturday and/or Sunday each week within our Front of House areas including our Café, Gift Shop and Reception.

As part of the Front of House team, you would be responsible for providing good customer service, assisting customers with their purchases, operating the cash register, and maintaining a clean and organised area.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers and provide excellent customer service within our café, shop and front entrance
  • Preparation of cold and hot food items in our café
  • Use the Barista machine to make a range of hot drinks
  • Operate a cash register and handle transactions accurately.
  • Stock shelves in both our café and shop area
  • Removal of waste products and rubbish from all areas of the café, shop, entrance & children’s play area as per guidelines
  • Maintain a clean working environment by ensuring regular cleaning of all work surfaces, equipment, storerooms and ancillary areas.
  • Ensure Health & Hygiene standards are met in both the shop & café. Including compliance with Food Hygiene Regulations such as food handling, storage, temperature control and personal hygiene.
  • To assist if required with end of day cashing up and associated administration, ensuring that all till operations are carried out in accordance with TLR policies and procedures.

Required skills and experience:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic math skills for handling cash transactions
  • An understanding (or willingness to learn) of health and hygiene legislation pertaining to café
