The animal department have been busy preparing for the arrival of the caiman. This week we took delivery of an unusual frozen food order consisting of baby mice and fish. This will be the main diet for the caiman, they will also be given live invertebrate food.

The quarantine facilities have been completed and are now fitted out with all the required equipment. The caiman will be temporarily housed in quarantine while their enclosure is created. This will give the caiman and animal staff time to get to know one other, learn each other’s quirks and build trust between keeper and animal. We take animal husbandry very seriously at the Living Rainforest and strive to provide our animals with the best care possible.

We’d like to say a massive thanks to everyone who has already donated to this appeal. It’s great to see that we’ve passed the first £1000 milestone, we’ve still got a way to go!

As a token of our appreciation, donors are invited to have their name displayed on the exhibit, choose names for the caimans, and get an invitation to a special opening event.
